A Weekend of Cats and Books

I like being at home when things aren’t so dramatic. Ironic that this weekend was one of those days. The best thing about being at home is being around my little cousins. Truth be told, they’re, most of the time, the only reason why I go home.

Yesterday, they gave me an update on our many cats at home: Night and Patch (who died of dehydration because apparently cats are lactose intolerant), Bianca (the serial raping cat; maybe naming him Bianca had something to do with it), Ning Ning, Kitty, Catty, and the nameless cat only known as Kitty and Catty’s mother. I also overheard this fascinating exchange:

My cousin: Papa, pano nanganganak ang pusa? Sinusuka ba nila?

My uncle: Hinde. Parang tao lang, lumalabas sa pek-pek.

Birds, bees and cats.

Anyway, the other half of my weekend belonged to books. I’m halfway through Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close. I finally found the copy of Kafka on the Shore I bought about 5 years ago, and the copy of After dark I borrowed from a friend. I also bought 6 books at BookSale today: Nell Freudenberger’s Lucky Girls, Takeshi Kitano’s Boy, Shira Nayman’s Awake in the Dark, Augusten Borrough’s Running with Scissors, Simonetta Agnello Hornby’s The Almond Picker and an autographed copy of Elizabeth Rosner’s The Speed of Life.

Never mind that I have a 6 year waiting list, I will read each book eventually. I’m most excited about The Almond Picker, but I will probably finish Murakami’s books first.

That’s about it. I’ve barely recovered from the last duty but I already have to go on duty again tomorrow. It’s back to survival mode (and tweeting cries of help) for me.
